Mouse in a Tin with a FREE Pattern | @Niños.and.Nature

The holidays are right around the corner, and it has been a year like no other. 2020 has brought so many challenges, from distance learning and financial stress to job loss and illness. It seems that now, more than ever, we all need a little holiday cheer. This is also the time when we work incredibly hard to find meaningful gifts that our children will love. From perusing gift guides to shopping Black Friday deals, sometimes the task at hand can be overwhelming and expensive. This year, with so many of us financially struggling, I want to help families see the potential in handmade gifts. You don’t need to be an expert crafter or seamstress to make something meaningful. In fact, this time last year I completed my very first sewing project, a Waldorf doll with crooked arms and a big head that has been snuggled day in and day out since the day my daughter received it. 

If you had told me last November that I would be creating a free sewing pattern to share with the world, I never would have believed you. Yet here I am, introducing you to this free mouse in a tin pattern. I do my best to walk you through how to make this little mouse every step of the way, with pictures and detailed descriptions, so that even a beginner could make this! This is the perfect gift for any child who loves to take sweet companions with them on their adventures near and far. Just the right size to fit and sleep inside a mint tin, these are a wonderful gift to make for stocking stuffers or to give any young child in your life. The best part about homemade toys is that you can make something incredibly special that costs more time and love than it does money. These can be made with scrap fabric and once you get the hang of them, you can make dozens to share with those you love. 

There is something magical that happens when you tell your child you made the gift you are giving them. Their eyes sparkle, and the thank you that you get will be enough to make your heart melt and it will make all those hours sewing more than worth it. They won’t care about the imperfections, the crooked arms or the wonky stitches, your children will adore this homemade gift because it was made with love by you.
